Something very interesting about the alpha-theta brain wave border frequency is, that it just happens to be the same frequency at which the electromagnetic field of our own earth resonates through its ionosphere. This frequency is known as the “Schumann Resonance” at about 7.8 Hz.

If you take a hike through the forest, the electromagnetic resonance of your own body will be affected by the earth’s natural electromagnetic field and eventually the two will resonate harmonically. This explains why being in nature promotes flow experience.

Since the earth’s electromagnetic field naturally resonates within the same frequencies as our brainwaves in flow. Being in nature will overpower our own electromagnetic field and cause us to resonate at the same frequency, naturally putting us into an alpha/theta brain wave state. Our brains evolved over hundreds of thousands of years within this same environmental frequency, so it makes sense that this is the frequency of peak performance.

There is no need to argue against the notion that nature and especially water attracts and fascinates us. It’s the most omnipresent substance on Earth and, along with air, the primary ingredient for supporting life as we know it. We ourselves are three-quarters H2O, so we know instinctively that being near water makes us healthier and happier, reduces stress, and brings us peace.

There is a wave of neuroscience, evolutionary biology and medical research that illuminates the physiological and brain processes that underlie our transformative connection to water. This research, involving tools like EEGs, MRIs, and fMRIs, is uncovering remarkable truths about water’s incredibly powerful and startlingly profound effects on our bodies.

Proximity to water can improve performance in a wide range of fields, increase calm and diminish anxiety much better than medication. It amplifies creativity, increases generosity and compassion, improves our overall health and well-being, reinforces our connection to the natural world and one another.

We are a generation that spends 90% of its life indoors, we left nature behind. We filled our homes with lovely things and all the stuff we wanted and they became places we would never want to leave. Artificial light replaced daylight and we built our houses so that nothing could escape.

So when the air turns bad inside, we fix it with chemicals, while scientists discovered that the air inside our homes is up to five times more polluted than the air outside. And that the lack of daylight can affect children’s learning, increase blood pressure and profoundly influence mood.

This is yet another supportive evidence that being in flow actually means to be aligned with the flow of complete “totality” around us. This means that perceptual experience of life runs increasingly flawlessly.

We don’t bump into challenges, we transcend them by flowing graciously around, over and through the adversities we face. We all experienced such periods of feeling like life is going our way, while now that we understand how it works, we can have a much more precise tool to tap into this crucial alignment.

“The human brain’s alpha waves function in this range and the electrical resonance of the earth is between 7- 8 hertz. Thus, our entire biological system, the brain and the earth itself, work on the same frequencies.” (Quote by Nikola Tesla, legendary scientist)
